The Poor And The Duty To Offer Hajj?

Hajj has been prescribed for every Muslim who is financially well-off and physically fit to undertake the journey, meet the financial costs and be able to perform the rituals. It is a common observation that majority of the people going for Hajj come from the lower income groups and they bear lot many hardships in raising money for the Hajj. But out of sheer reverence they sacrifice their primal needs at the altar of religious devotion. Do you think that such people who have to struggle to earn their livelihood, better not be allowed to perform Hajj? Is it permissible for an Islamic government to draft a Hajj Policy (as drafted by the Pakistani government regularly) that would only allow people with fiscal soundness to perform hajj? e.g only those would be allowed who earn, lets suppose, 100,000Rs annually or more. Will such a restriction be in accordance with Islam?

Umrah By A Nursing Mother

Two years ago I intended to go for umrah. Now I am married and a mother of one-year old baby by the grace of ALLAH and can afford easily all expenditures of umrah. The problem however is that my baby is just one-year old and is on my breast feed. It would be difficult for me to leave her behind for 15 days. It would also not so easy for me to take her with me because I want to pay full attention to worship rituals during my stay in Saudi Arab. I am in a great confusion on this matter. Kindly give me a right guideline in this matter in the light of Islamic Sharī'ah.

Hajj Or Jihad?

There is a ḥadīth in the Sahih of Bukhari which says that hajj has greater status than jihad. Does this ḥadīth not contradict all other hadiths on jihad? The Prophet (sws) put jihad third in good deeds after the salah (prayer) and serving parents.

Hajj-e Badal

What is hajj-e badal. I just read that in USA somebody can perform hajj for somebody else for $1500.00. They quote two hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) narrated by Ibn Abbas. Appearing in Bukhari’s Sahih the ḥadīth is claimed to be a sahih. Is there anything like hajj-e badal or its just an innovation?

Stoning (ramy) Before Midday

My question is about stoning and pelting the jamarāt during hajj, on the 11th and 12th of the lunar calendar. Can ramy be conducted before 1200 on these days? Why do the scholars say that the time for ramy for these days starts after midday?

What Is Hajj Al-badal?

1. What is hajj al-badal? I just read in USA that for $1500.00 somebody can perform hajj for somebody else. They quote two Ahadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which are claimed to be sound. Is there anything like hajj-e-badal or there is nothing like that?

2. I also have another question relating to sighting the moon. It’s a problem in Indian and Pakistani community. Some say that you have to see it with naked eyes. Some say calculations are right and the others say not. I personally believe in calculations as you know they always are 100% correct which we just witnessed this year. I wanted to ask what is the correct hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and what is in the context it has been said and is it compulsory to sight the moon with naked eyes or because as we use technology in nowadays we can use it in this situation too? Why Muslims have so much problem with moon sighting not with other matters when they use technology even in the religion.
3. Whenever I ask any questions on anything to the ulama they start explaining the answers in the light of fiqah looks like they are teaching fiqas not the deen. Is fiqah that important that nowadays its considers that important? The last line of defence they use is that you should have to follow one fiqah you can't mix it. I don't believe that I am going to take everything which is easy in any fiqah is that understanding right or not? Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said that we need to keep the deen simple. I am not sure whether my understanding is correct or not? Why all these problems arise in Indian and Pakistani communities, what about Arabs? They have kept the deen simple. Is it right or not?

The Obligation To Perform Hajj

I apply for hajj and my application is not approved for certain reasons. My name does not come out in the ballot. People tend to say that “you have not got a call from God.” My question is this: Is this true? If it is then how would you substantiate it through the Quran and Hadith?

Cheating The Governemnt

A man wants to perform Hajj. He lives in Germany for the last 20 years. He is now un-employed for the last 13 years. He is healthy and does not look for work. He receives an amount monthly by the state, that also for the last 13 years. The money he receives is by telling the state that he cannot find work or informs the state that he cannot work due to medical reason, but on the other hand he is running a business and working without informing the state. My question follows: Can he perform Hajj with the money he receives from the state?

Duties Of A Husband Towards His Wife Concerning Hajj

I have a small religious question for you. Is it obligatory for the husband to take wife to perform hajj or is it mandatory for him to pay for hajj expenditure of wife in the following two situations i.e.

a) when wife has not enough resources to perform hajj
b) when wife has sufficient resources to perform hajj
I think it is not mandatory for the husband to pay for expenditure of hajj of wife if she can afford it. The problem arose when I said this in a gathering of friends where wives were also present and since then I am under hot water.

Now what do the authorities on religion say about this issue?

Is General Charity Rewarded More Than Prescribed Worship Rituals?

Recently I heard on a Pakistani channel the story of Rabi bin Suleiman who was going for Hajj, while in Kufa seeing the poor economic condition of a syed zadi, he gave all his belonging except what he needed to go back without performing Hajj. He was being told by Muhammad (sws) in his dream that God is pleased with him; an angel will perform Hajj every year for him till the Day of Judgment. Is this story true? If so, it contradicts the teaching. On one hand Hajj is obligatory while on the other hand serving poor is a kind act for the society. Can human rights take over the divine rights? Please guide.

Fake Certificates For Traveling Alone For Hajj

There is a general tendency nowadays to form groups by some agents for ‘Umrah. The problem with this method of ‘Umrah is that some of the ladies also want to perform ‘Umrah but they do not have a Mahram to accompany them. In the process, what the agents do is to declare some males in the group as Mahram of these ladies so that the official requirement is fulfilled. I wanted to know whether this kind of subterfuge is allowable in Islam. A good aspect of forming these groups could be that these groups consist of subgroups of ladies who then perform the ‘Umrah rituals quite satisfactorily and independently, which serve the real purpose of the company of a Mahram.
