Life In Hell And Paradise

I am reading the English translation of the Quran by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. My copy also contains his notes on the passages. He writes under Q 10:45 that we will recognize each other on Judgment Day so we know that justice is served and that Allah served righteousness to those according to their deeds on earth.

When Judgment is passed and we (InshaAllah) are granted eternity in Jannah, will our memories of those doomed for the fire remain with us? Seems a hard thing to consume knowing that some on earth that were not evil but just not believers and we were friends with are in eternal agony. Could you explain in your best opinion of this?

Is God Just And Merciful?

Please respond to the following questions from a Hindu friend.

Put simply, the basic premises of the Abrahamic beliefs (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are as follows:
  • God is just, kind, perfect
  • This life is our first and last life
  • God is testing us here
  • Based on the marks we obtain in this test, we will go to either Heaven or Hell.

The differences between various sects of Judaism, Christianity and Islam lie only in

  •  the testing criteria and the description of Heaven and Hell
  •  the level of fanaticism required for passing this Test.
But the basic construct is same – One Life which is Test, God is best examiner, and Result is Pass (Heaven) or Fail (Hell).
Let us evaluate this basic construct critically through a series of examples, and decide whether it is logically plausible.
1.
Many children die in the wombs. Now as per Islam or Christianity would they go to Heaven or Hell? Most scholars of Islam and Christianity say they go to Heaven because they never did anything wrong in their lives.
Now my question is “Did they even have an option to do anything wrong?”
Is God not being partial by clearing one candidate even without starting his examination, and another one has to keep giving test after test continuously for 100 years!
2.
Many children die young before they reach maturity. Even the wrong acts they do are not out of willful desire to do something wrong but out of innocence. Would they reach Heaven or Hell?
If they reach Heaven, then why does God not kill everyone in their childhood and ensure a seat in Heaven for them? Is God not being unjust and imperfect?
If they reach Hell, what was their fault?
Say twins were born. Both lived same innocent life for first 3 years. Then one died. He will go straight to Heaven. The other remained innocent for next few years, then got into bad company, became an Apostate/Kafir and died at age of 60. Now he should go to Hell, as per the Books.
Is this not God’s crime that he made him live for 60 years and not his brother? Had he killed both at same age of 3 years, both would have gone to Heaven!
So if there is one life and permanent Heaven/Hell, it proves God is unjust.
3.
A person is born insane. His mental faculties have not developed beyond say, age of five. But he lives a long life. Will he go to Hell or Heaven?
Again the same questions as above rise. And result in either God being unjust or concept of one life as test to enter Heaven/Hell being wrong.

Purpose Of Human Life

I am a student of physics at the University of Vienna. As you know that in the West there is a misunderstanding about the Islamic teachings and practices, which puts a common Muslim in conflict with his religion. Therefore my question to you is: why we are meant to go to Paradise or Hell after the death. Is the existence of Paradise and Hell only a projection and excuse of the human mind to make this world seem less important? For instance we are promised to get 70 Virgins and alcohol in Paradise and in this world we have to stay away from prohibited sexual relations and alcohol. Is it not a kind of double standard? Why does someone for example an atheist, a man who does not believe in God or at least in a personal god must go to Hell? Does my life only means only to go to Hell or Paradise after death? What do you think of Karl Marx who said “Religion is only an opium of the people". I would be very pleased and thankful to you for your guidance.

Regarding Hazrat Abū Talib

Mufti Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi had written a risala (pamphlet) to prove that Hazrat Abu Talib was a kafir and is in hell for ever. He wrote this risala a very long time ago and sunnis of Pakistan had almost forgotten this risala and fatwa. But unfortunately in the recent past few Sunni barelvi ulema who have a crooked mentality have started to spread this fatwa among sunni masses through booklets, their fatawa, their speeches and above all through internet at this web address: http://www.razanw.org/modules/alahazratbooks/item.php?itemid=89&page=630

I request you to kindly read this risala in minutest of the details and kindly refute every argument and every reference given by the Mufti Sahib.

Will Some People Be Released From Hell

I have heard a lot of people saying that if someone dies as a Muslim and he used to believe in Allah from the core of his heart and also believe in Hazrat Muhammad (sws) but has done a lot of bad deeds (more than his good deeds) then he will be given the punishment for his bad deeds for some time and then he will be sent to heaven for ever after. However, I used to strongly disagree and say that if someone goes to Hell, then he stays there forever and if he goes to heaven then he stays there forever. And what you are saying is exactly what the Christians used to say. But I would like to know the opinion of Mr. Ghamdi on this and if I'm wrong please explain this to me and if I'm right please tell me how to explain this to others. Thank You.

Fate Of The Prophet’s Parents

A scholar has claimed that the holy Prophet’s parents are in Hell, because they were not Muslims. I need a clarification on the matter. He claimed that the Prophet Mohammad (sws) had once told a Muslim who had non-Muslim parents that his parents were in Hell. He got upset and the prophet clarified that his parents were with the Prophet’s parents, in Hell.

Now, I think that all those who were not introduced to the Holy Prophet should not be in Hell, because they existed before the revelation of Qur’an or the advent of the Prophet (sws). I am sure that the Prophet’s parents followed Abraham’s religion which was also the predecessor of Islam in Arabia. Please, elaborate and comment with reference to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
