A debate is going on about the permissibility of otherwise of tasbeeh (dhikr beads) among a group of friends. I myself use them regularly. I wanted to know if it is bida'ah (innovation)?

Alleged Innovations By Hazrat Umar (ra)

I have heard that after the death of Holy Prophet (sws) especially during the rule of Hazrat Umar (ra), several changes were made in the ordinance of the State and religion.

Hazrat Umar (ra) introduced some new laws in the Islamic Shariah and these laws have become part of Islamic culture and tradition and are still followed by people of this time. How far is this true?
Also I want to know that was it Hazrat Umar (ra) who introduced the utterance of divorce three times and the phrase "prayer is better than sleep" in the adhan of Fajr (morning)?
Please throw some light on this information and let me know that were these innovations made by Hazrat Umar(ra) in the light of Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet (sws)?

Prayers Led By An Innovator Imam

Through the recent book fair being held in Expo Centre, Karachi, I came to know about you and the books you wrote on Islam. I read two books of yours and found your findings very much correct and reformative. I not only appreciate but also admire your approach. I have a question which I want to ask from you and I know you will answer it in the light of Quran and the Sunnah.

First of all, I want to tell you something which is related to my question. The Imam of the Masjid where I used to go for the salah is often engaged in chanting Allāhū (name of God) all the time and keeps on shaking his head. He also asks his followers to do the same. According to my knowledge about my religion, this is not proved through the whole life of our beloved Holy Prophet (sws), the four Caliphs and the general companions (sahabah-i karam). Further, the Prophet (sws) said: "He who innovates something in this matter of ours that is not of it, will have it rejected." (Transmitted by Al Bukhari & Muslim).

Now, my question is: Can I perform the salah behind this Imam? Is it allowed to follow the Imam? What shall I do?

Marrying A Woman Of Different Religion Denomination

I have a very personnel question regarding my marriage. I have promised a girl to marry her but her family members are very irrational (personal opinion) orthodox bralevi. On the other hand my family members are relatively rationale. My brother says that the girl must have the same belief as their parents. Till then I should not go ahead with this relation. Today I am in an ambivalent condition. If I get married to her I will lose the basic tradition of my family and its belief and of course it will set not a very good example for the next generation. On the other hand, if I withdraw from it I myself consider it very immoral and this will affect the life of the girl more than it can affect mine. Please guide me.

Chanting Allah’s Name

Through the recent Book Fair being held in Expo Centre, Karachi, I came to know about you and the books you wrote on Islam. I read two books of yours and found very much correct. I not only appreciate but also admire your works. I have a question which I want to ask from you and I know you will answer it in the light of Quran and the sunnah.

First of all, I want to tell you something which is related to my question. The Imam of the Masjid where I go for salah does "the vird (chanting) of ALLAHU" all the time. He does this while shaking his head from the neck and also asks his followers to do the same. According to my knowledge about my religion, this is not proved through the whole life of our beloved Holy Prophet (sws), the four Caliphs and then the companions. Further, our Holy Prophet (sws) said: He who innovates something in this matter of ours that is not of it, will have it rejected." (Transmitted by Al Bukhari & Muslim).

Blessings Of The Relics Of The Prophet (sws)

Offering Prayer Led By An Imam Who Commits Polytheistic Acts

I would like to know if it is permissible to pray 'Jumu’ah (Friday) Prayer led by a person who goes to graves of righteous people to seek blessing from them and also prostrates on graves? Please note that there is no other option for me. My college is situated in a village and the only option is to pray in that particular mosque. Is it permissible to offer Jumu’ah (Friday) Prayer at my college after delivering the sermon?

Celebrating Birthdays

I have been told that celebrating birthdays is tantamount to innovation in the religion of God. The following saying of the Holy Prophet (sws) is quoted to prove this claim.

Whoever introduces anything into this matter of ours that does not belong to it shall have that action rejected. (Bukhari, Muslim).
In another version recorded by Muslim and by Bukhari, the wording is as follows:
Whoever performs a deed which is not in accord with our affairs, then that deed is rejected.

These people maintain that the Holy Prophet (sws) did not celebrate his birthday at all during his lifetime nor did he ever order it to be celebrated. He also did not teach this to his Companions (rta). Therefore, the rightly-guided caliphs and all of his Companions (rta) did not celebrate it. They were the most knowledgeable of the people concerning his Sunnah and they were the most beloved to the Holy Prophet (sws). Therefore, if one is supposed to celebrate the Holy Prophet (sws)’s birthday, this would have been made evident at their time. Similarly, not one of the scholars of the best generations celebrated his birthday nor did they order it to be done. The absence of the celebration with the Companions (rta) and the most learned scholars of the past would mean that such a celebration is not from the Law that Allah sent Muhammad (sws) with
