Why should we call lunar calendar as Islamic calendar? Is it really Islamic or just lunar?

The Sun And The Moon

My friend has asked me a question regarding Sūrah Yasīn verse 40. Abdullah Yusuf Ali translates it as follows:

It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night
outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to
Law).

We have two issues:

1. The moon "catches up" to the sun when there is an eclipse.

2. The sun does not have an orbit.

First, I don't believe that the issue raised in point 1 has anything to do with the verse. The verse according to my understanding is talking about the specific purposes of each celestial body within the sky and how one cannot replace the other. And as for point 2, from my understanding, the Qur’ān is not giving any scientific statements. Though the sun does actually orbit the center of the Milky Way, I do not believe this is what the Qur’ān is saying.

Can you present a more accurate translation and meaning of the verse?

Moon Sighting With Scientific Tools

he most important thing about Eid moon. It is a problem here in Inida and Pakistan. Some say that you have to sight it with naked eyes. Some say calculations is right. Some say not. I personally believe in calculations as you know they always are 100% correct which we just witnessed this year. I wanted to ask what does the sahih hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) say. What is the context in which it has been said? Is it compulsory to sight the moon with naked eyes or because as we use technology in nowadays we can use it in this situation too? Why Muslims have so much problems with moon sighting not with other matters when they use technology even in religion. Why do these problems appear more in Indian and Pakistani community? What about Arabs? They have kept the deen simple. Is it right or not?

Splitting The Moon And Questioning The Angels

1. Is it true that Prophet (sws) has divided moon with his finger.

(i). If it is true then why we have not got yet any proof from authentic scientific source because many of sign of Qur’an have been proved by science that it is true such like Bigbang theory. Movement of moon and act.
2. Is it part of true ḥadīth that prophet (sws) said to Hazrat ‘Umar: When angel comes into your grave and asks question to you about your creator then you will explain that Allah is your Lord and cross-question him and ask “who is your Lord?” Is it possible that an angel who is assigned work by Allah is cross-questioned?

What Is Hajj Al-badal?

1. What is hajj al-badal? I just read in USA that for $1500.00 somebody can perform hajj for somebody else. They quote two Ahadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which are claimed to be sound. Is there anything like hajj-e-badal or there is nothing like that?

2. I also have another question relating to sighting the moon. It’s a problem in Indian and Pakistani community. Some say that you have to see it with naked eyes. Some say calculations are right and the others say not. I personally believe in calculations as you know they always are 100% correct which we just witnessed this year. I wanted to ask what is the correct hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and what is in the context it has been said and is it compulsory to sight the moon with naked eyes or because as we use technology in nowadays we can use it in this situation too? Why Muslims have so much problem with moon sighting not with other matters when they use technology even in the religion.
3. Whenever I ask any questions on anything to the ulama they start explaining the answers in the light of fiqah looks like they are teaching fiqas not the deen. Is fiqah that important that nowadays its considers that important? The last line of defence they use is that you should have to follow one fiqah you can't mix it. I don't believe that I am going to take everything which is easy in any fiqah is that understanding right or not? Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said that we need to keep the deen simple. I am not sure whether my understanding is correct or not? Why all these problems arise in Indian and Pakistani communities, what about Arabs? They have kept the deen simple. Is it right or not?

A Scientific Error In The Qur’an?

My question is regarding the following verse of the Qur’an:

It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each swims along in [its own] orbit [according to law]. (36:40)
The sun does not have an orbit. This is a proven scientific fact. Please clarify.

A Prophetic Hadith Contradicting Scientific Facts!

I came across this Hadith in Bukhari. The Prophet (sws) explains to Abu Dharr:

Do you know where the sun sets...? Indeed it travels till it prostates itself underneath the throne. (No: 4428)
This Hadith clearly seems to contradict the fact that sunset is brought about by the rotation of the earth. How should this Hadith be interpreted, and how do we counter criticisms by non-Muslims who might make use of this Hadith to assert that some of the Prophetic sayings contradict scientific facts?
