Abdus Sattar Ghauri Fellow


Abdus Sattar Ghauri the senior most fellow of Al-Mawrid passed away on 22 April 2014. He remained associated with Al-Mawrid for almost two decades. He was a profound scholar of Biblical Studies. He devoted a greater part of his life to this subject and contributed deeply-researched books and articles in this area.

Born in Patiala (India) in 1935, Abdus Sattar Ghauri migrated to Pakistan in 1947 and taught for several years after he completed his MA (Islamic Studies) and M Phil (EPM). He remained a member of the National Curriculum Development Committee set up by the Ministry of Education of the government of Pakistan. He participated in many seminars and Master Trainers Workshops as a resource person throughout Pakistan.

Ammar Khan Nasir Contributing Member


Mr Ammar Khan Nasir was born in December 1975 to a renowned religious and scholarly family in the town of Gakhar Gujranwala, Pakistan. His grandfather Mawlana Muhammad Sarfaraz Khan Safdar is considered the academic voice of the Deobandi School in the country. His father, Mawlana Zahid al-Rashidi, is a famous religious scholar known for his sound and balanced religious approach.

Mr Ammar Khan Nasir obtained his elementary religious education in Madrasa Anwar al-Uloom Gujranwala. He obtained Shahada Alamiyyah from Madrasa Nusrat al-Uloom Gujranwala in 1994. Then he started pursuing conventional studies and obtained Masters Degree in English Literature from the University of the Punjab in 2001. He has worked as Assistant Editor of the Monthly Al-Shari’ah published from Gujranwala from 1989 to 2000. Since then he has been serving as the Editor of the journal. Asif Iftikhar Fellow


Mr Asif Iftikhar is a Fellow at Al-Mawrid and also a permanent member of the Social Sciences Faculty at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore (Pakistan) where he has been teaching courses related to Islam, Islamic law, business ethics, and communication skills for more than seven years now. He is also serving as a Member of the UBL Shari’ah Advisory Board. Mr Iftikhar has a wide and rich teaching experience of 15 years, and has taught at some of the best national and international educational institutions as the Civil Services Academy, National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Pakistan Administrative Staff College, the Punjab University (various institutes and departments), and McGill University (Montreal, Canada). He has also served in various capacities earlier at al-Mawrid for different periods of time as a faculty member, writer, vice-president and editor (Renaissance, a journal of the institute).

Dr. Khalid Zaheer Fellow


Dr. Khalid Zaheer (1958) is currently serving as Vice President Al-Mawrid Institute of Islamic Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. He is a member of the Executive Committee and also a member of the Board of Governors; Al-Mawrid.

Prior to this, he taught at the Lahore University of Management Sciences and before joining LUMS, he taught at the Institute of Business Administration, University of the Punjab (1986 to 1990) as a Lecturer and later (1994 to 1998) as an Assistant Professor.

He served as an adviser to Crescent Standard Islamic Bank on “Islamic Banking” from July 2005 to June 2006, as Shari’ah Adviser to Atlas Islamic Fund from 2006 to 2007. He was appointed in January 2000 as a member of the task force of the Finance Division of the Government of Pakistan. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Khan Contributing Member


He lived like an undaunted warrior and died the death of a martyr. For the past few years, he gallantly stared death in its eyes as he continued to vehemently condemn terrorism and militancy. Death threats could not swerve him from his stance and he would seldom pay heed to voices beckoning him to exercise care and caution. And then, the inevitable happened. He was shot at when he was busy seeing his patients at his clinic in Mardan on October the 2nd and could not survive the bullet wounds. His face still wore that typical beam – his vintage hallmark well known to all those who knew him – when he lay enshrouded before his burial.

Dr. Shehzad Saleem Fellow


Born in 1966 Shehzad Saleem has been under the tutelage of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi since 1988 and is currently a Research Fellow and one of the Vice Presidents of Al-Mawrid. He has a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore, Pakistan and holds a PhD in the History of the Qur’an from the University of Wales, UK.

Special Area of Interest
  He recently (2014) completed a fifteen year research work on the History of the Qur’an, a part of which constituted his doctoral thesis (the thesis portion is available at: http://www.al-mawrid.org/index.php/books/view/collection-of-the-quran-a-critical-and-historical-study-of-al-farahis-view).  The work addresses some nagging questions related to the revelation, collection and transmission of the Qur’an. These questions include narratives found in our legacy on the alleged incompleteness of the Qur’an, scribal errors found in it,  its variant readings, chronology of its compilation, order of the surahs, and manuscript studies.

Javed Ahmad Ghamidi Fellow


Javed Ahmad Ghamidi was born in 1951 in a village of Sahiwal, a district of the Punjab province. After matriculating from a local school, he came to Lahore in 1967 where he is settled eversince. He did his BA honours (part I) in English Literature and Philosophy from the Government College, Lahore in 1972 and studied Islamic disciplines in the traditional manner from various teachers and scholars throughout his early years. In 1973, he came under the tutelage of Amin Ahsan Islahi (d. 1997) (http://www.amin-ahsan-islahi.com), who was destined to who have a deep impact on him. He was also associated with the famous scholar and revivalist Abu al-A‘la Mawdudi (d. 1979) for several years. He taught Islamic studies at the Civil Services Academy for more than a decade from 1979 to 1991.

Muhammad Hassan Ilyas assistant Fellow


Mr. Muhammad Hassan Ilyas was born in July 1988 in Karachi. He belongs to a scholarly family of the Indo-Pak region. His grandfathers Mawlana Ishaq Alvi (Deoband) and Allama Muhammad Tahseen (Amroha) are both considered great academics of the Deobandi School of thought. Mr. Muhammad Hassan Ilyas completed his Matriculation from Karachi, after which he moved to Islamabad and completed his ICS from there. After that he decided to study religion, and enrolled himself in a Madrasah. He completed his six years course in Dars-e-Nizami. It was during his time at the Madrasah that he was introduced to the Farahi school and the works of Mr Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, and decided to join him.

Muhammad Ibrahim Sheikh associate Fellow


Muhammad Ibrahim Sheikh (b. 1968) completed memorizing the Qur’an while in college. After his graduation in 1988, he joined the Qur’an Academy for a one year course on Islamic studies. Later, he obtained his professional B.ED in 1990. In 1992, he obtained his Masters in Arabic Language and Literature (privately) from the Punjab University. After serving 6-7 years as Lecturer at the Qur’an College, he joined the Al-Mawrid Foundation in 1999 to complete Shahadah e alamiyyah from there in 2001. Since 2003, he has been an online instructor of various courses at the Foundation’s sister organization for online Islamic education, Studying Islam (http://www.studying-islam.org). During this time he has translated into Urdu many courses developed for the website.

He is currently in the process of completing his M Phil (MS) at the University of Central Punjab (UCP) on the topic of “Da‘wat-e Deen: A Comparative Study of Islahi & Ghamidi”.…

Muhammad Rafi Mufti Fellow


Mr Muhammad Rafi Mufti was born on December 9, 1953 in district Wazirabad Pakistan. He received formal education up to BSc and joined Glaxo Laboratories Limited. He came into contact with Mr Javed Ahmad Ghamidi in 1976 and started occasionally attending his lectures. This general and informal learning and teaching continued for some time until he started regularly learning religious disciplines from Mr Ghamidi in 1984. He resigned from his job when it proved a hindrance in his studies. He received training in Hadith from the scholars of Ahl-i Hadith School of Thought and learned Fiqh disciplines from Hanafi scholars. He was trained in Arabic language and literature by Javed Ahmad Ghamidi. He is attached to Al-Mawrid from 1991.

Muhammad Siddiq Bukhari associate Fellow


Muhammad Siddiq Shah Bukhary (b. 1961) did his masters in Political Science from the Punjab University in 1983. He completed his shahadah e alamiyyah from the Al-Mawrid Foundation in 2001 and later also taught at the Foundation in the Masters in Islamic Studies program (2002-2003). In 2004, he launched Suay Haram (http://www.suayharam.org), a monthly Islamic journal. Since 2006 he is serving in a reputed institution of Abu Dhabi, UAE as instructor of Islamic Studies to O Level students. He conducts regular Islamic study sessions with teachers and students of the school.

Mushafiq Sultan assistant Fellow


Mushafiq Sultan, born in Kashmir (Indian Administered) in 1988, has been studying world religions from his school days. In 2009 Mushafiq came across the works of Ustaz Javed Ahmad Ghamidi and since then has been highly influenced by his thought. He has an exceptional interest in world religions, their philosophies and their mutual relations. He formally joined Al-Mawrid in 2016 as Assistant Fellow (Honorary). Presently, he is in charge of Al-Mawrid’s query service. In 2016, he published his first book ‘Muhammad (sws) in the Bible- An Exposition on Isaiah 42’. He has written articles on Islam, Christianity and Hinduism. He has also translated several articles of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi into Hindi.

Rehan Ahmed Yusufi Fellow


Mr Rehan Ahamd Yusufi started his career as a teacher and an educationist after obtaining Masters Degrees in Islamic Studies and Computer Technology from the Karachi University with distinction. He started his professional career by serving as a system analyst in a commercial organization. In 1997 he joined service in Saudi Arabia and later immigrated to Canada. 

Mr Rehan Ahmad Yusufi has been attached to people of learning from the beginning of his education career. In 1991, he was introduced to Mr Javed Ahmad Ghamid, a Pakistani religious scholar. After his return from Canada in 2002, Mr Yusufi joined Al-Mawrid, a Foundation for Islamic Research and Education, founded by Mr Ghamidi. Presently Mr Yusufi is an Associate Fellow at Al-Mawrid. Sajid Hameed Fellow


Sajid Hameed was born on October 10 1965 in Pakpattan. He did his MA in Urdu and another MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Punjab. He studied Arabic grammar, language and literature. He leant the holy Qur’an from Mr Muhammad Sabiq, a Deobandi scholar. He studied the Muwatta of Imam Malik, the celebrated hadith compilation and Nuzhah al-Fikr, the famous work on Hadith criticism from Hafiz Ata ur Rehman an erudite Hadith scholar. For advanced studies in religious disciplines he has remained a student of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi since 1987. He has deeply studied the Qur’an, Hadith, Arabic literature and other religious disciplines.

Talib Mohsin Fellow


Mr Talib Mohsin was born in 1959 in the district Pakpattan of Punjab. He received elementary education in his native town. Later on he moved to Lahore and passed his matriculation from the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore. He joined F.C College Lahore and graduated in 1981. He has his MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Punjab. He joined Mr Ghamidi to learn religious disciplines during early years of his educational career. He is one of the senior students of Mr Ghamidi form whom he learnt Arabic Grammar and major religious disciplines.
